OOW (Office On Watch)

OOW (Office On Watch) (II/1)

About This Course

The first and most significant start in your career as a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy is the Officer of the Watch (OOW) course.

This OOW course prepares you to work in adverse conditions on the bridge, which is the command centre of the ship, wherein the navigation is managed along with cargo and communication.

If you're passionate about ships, the sea, and international travel, this course gives you the chance to build a global career at sea, with a certificate that is recognized worldwide.

At School of Marine Education (SME), we offer a trusted path to the OOW UK Certificate of Competency (COC) along with our partnership with South Shields Marine School (SSMS), UK.

The OOW course is a perfect option for

  • Students who have sailed as Deck Ratings
  • Seafarers who have completed the minimum required level of Sea Service (as required by the MCA)
  • Young people with marine backgrounds who aspire to upgrade to an Officer.
  • Anyone who wants a Deck Officer license that is recognized in the UK
