About This Course
The Master course is the final upgrade in a deck officer's professional journey. Once you have served as a Chief Mate and gained the required sea service, this course prepares you to become the captain of a vessel.

If you are a professional who -
- Hold a Chief Mate (II/2) UK COC

Have adequate sea service as a Chief Mate (min. 12 months)
- Candidates must have completed 36 months Watchkeeping service while holding an OOW Unlimited (II/2) Certificate of Competency – COC.
- This period may be reduced to 24 months if at least 12 months of such seagoing service has been served as Chief Mate while holding a Chief Mate Unlimited (II/2) Certificate of Competency – COC.
- Possess updated STCW safety certifications

The Master course is mainly about getting ready for oral exams, helping with paperwork, and following UK maritime rules. The program is conducted online and offline with South Shields Marine School, UK.
- This is a five week programme of 75 hours covering topics on the Masters oral syllabus (syllabus A) to prepare you for your Masters oral examination.
- You will be taught by our expert and experienced team of lecturers who will give you the knowledge and confidence before you sit your oral exam.
- This course is specifically designed to cover the orals syllabus and each lecture is taught by a subject specific lecturer who will utilize our world class facilities and resources to their fullest extent.
- This course can be attended remotely via Microsoft Teams.
- Valid Chief Mate (Unlimited) UK COC
- Sea service as Chief Mate on vessels over 500 GRT (typically 18 months)
- Updated STCW Certificates
- Passport & CDC copies (notarized)
- Watchkeeping Certificates
- NOE Form (MSF 4274)
- Valid Medical

Upon clearing your MCA oral exam, you obtain your Master (Unlimited) UK COC, which also authorizes you to:
- Command any commercial ship (cargo, passenger, offshore)
- Lead teams from other countries on board.
- Move into roles on shore as a leader, marine surveyor, or marine educator.
